His point is that you can take great images with any camera if you have the know-how. Photography is all about lighting, not the equipment.
1- All professional photographers using dSLRs use the same lighting equipment for their photo shoots and many use retouching as well, but no one seems to bash that.
2- All of his lighting equipment can be recreated cheaply using blankets and flood lights.
The video was about improving your photography by understanding basic skills, composition and light.

This video ROCKS! OMG! you’re a genius!!!
I’ve thought about this so many times, but to actually see it pulled off with such perfection is amazing!
And this is just a 3GS imagine what you could do with the iPhone 4!!!

I was really excited to see this… UNTIL I saw all the lighting equipment and then mentions sending the photos off to a retoucher… lol I can take photos with an iPhone and retouch them in PS to look great…. come on… use the iPhone and nothing else!

Hey lee, keep it up! it was v fun and v nice watching your vid in reading the your post. I hope your post will inspire more ppl to buy camera from other brands other than Canon and Nikon(although they have the most %shares in the market)
Now that you have done photoshoots, try videoshoots w iPhone3GS w by all means studio lightings and see whether it is good enough for broadcast.

@187deicide That DSLR camera is for the video. He has 2 audio tranmitters on his belt at that point and one is for the DSLR and the other for the “hand camera”. In case you didn’t know, more and more videoclips are done by a Canon D5 or D7 in HD live view mode.
It kills my job though, a “normal” photocamera used for making videoclips while i have a professional broadcast camera on my shoulders

Re-affirms my belief that you should forget the camera and think about the light.

This photo shoot is just like any photo shoot—-except the ‘camera’. And honestly how cheap can an iPhone be?
Furthermore, the irony about this behind- the-scene video is that it’s professionally made.

You should edit that Olympus out tho.

this proves that more important than the camera are the people in front and behind it

one thing I do agree with is that you don’t need super expensive equipment to take good photos, however this video is extremely flawed as you use ridiculously expensive lighting equipment, make up artists, a full blown studio and post processing software… so, uhh kinda pointless?
