Sgt. Peeper ruled the Gondala in Wildwood, NY and Bruce led the way.

In them eighties I liked Bruce Springsteen, the reason was he seemed a very fine man, in his interviews. A man you could trust and like.

and
“She went away, she cut me like a knife”
They look right through him:
“Hello beautiful thing, maybe you could save my life”
But she doesn’t,
“The girls in their summer clothes
In the cool of the evening light
The girls in their summer clothes,
pass me by”

Glory Days is a song about the passage of time, about growing older and, eventually, old, about living in the past, in your head.
He plays it in an upbeat, even funny way, but it’s ultimately a sad song.
Summer Clothes has the same theme.
Guy heads out, all hopeful.
“…tonight I’m gonna burn this town down”
but
The girls in their summer clothes, *pass me by*

can you explain what you mean about the similarity to Glory Days? I’m curious but I don’t think I quite follow you. Two of my favorites by the Boss…

A great song, even a Springsteen Classic, but he also plays a bit of a trick – the beautiful melody, and the heart breaking lyrics.
The girls in their summer clothes
pass me by
It’s similar to Glory Days
Sometimes I sit around thinking about it,
when the girls in their summer clothes
didn’t pass me by
La la la
The guy’s a genius.

I agree! Although, I’m 21, and a Bruce fanatic. Not all of us youngsters are hanging out in our rooms listening to the Jonas Brothers….etc. I proudly have Bruce Springsteen, The Beatles, Edith Piaf, The Doors…etc in my CD player, and on my MP3 player! : )
